UTS NTEU members holding banners during their strike

At a recent meeting of UoN staff, we passed a motion calling on UoN to adopt a series of measures to honor the intention of the new Closing the Loopholes legislation of creating more job security for casual colleagues.

To build the pressure towards that outcome, we’re calling on UoN staff to join our campaign by sending an email to Vice Chancellor Zelinsky and UoN Council.

About this session

Are you wondering whether you might qualify for conversion from casual or fixed-term employment to a more secure form of employment under the Enterprise Agreement conversion clauses or the Fair Work Act? Or perhaps you are already working on your application. At these workshops, NTEU Industrial Officer Simon Kempton and NTEU Organiser Glen Smyth will take members through the relevant Enterprise Agreement clauses and the application process.

By the end of this session you will have a good understanding of the criteria you will need to meet to make an application for conversion, the reasons management can draw on to reject an application (and how to ensure they aren't misused), as well as how the NTEU will provide support if your application is rejected.

The Enterprise agreement provides for industrial relations training leave:

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS TRAINING

564. Leave of absence on full pay for up to six working days in any one calendar year may be granted to a staff member who is a member of a Union for the purpose of attending courses or seminars for the purposes of industrial relations training. Leave granted for these courses or seminars will count as service for all purposes.
